Syria Ceasefire 'Appears To Be Holding'

The UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan has said the ceasefire in Syria appears to be holding despite reports of clashes close to the Turkish border.

Fighting has been reported between government troops and rebels near the village of Khirbel Joz in Idlib province.

There are also reports that security forces have shot dead three demonstrators as tens of thousands of people took part in marches across the country.

A spokesman for Mr Annan said the envoy had been encouraged that the cessation in hostilities "appeared to be holding".

"Mr Annan is aware that we don't have a perfect situation in the country at the moment," Ahmad Fawzi said.

"There are detainees that need to be released, humanitarian corridors that need to be opened." Read More
