The Temptations & The Four Tops @ Casino de Paris, Paris March 31 2010

Soul Music , that's the way we like it, Han Han !
REAL Soul Music, not that shit from Destiny's Child & Co even though Beyonce is much more sexy than all past & present members of The Four Tops & The Temptations put together.
They may be called The Four Tops but they could be re-christened The One Top as there's only one original member : Abdul « Duke » Fakir.
The Motown Quartet from... Detroit, famous in the 60's for their Doo-wop, jazz , Soul & even disco music is still active and doing good... very good indeed.

Abdul « Duke » Fakir, if there is one...

Can't be wrong with all these HITS : "Bernadette", "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)", "It's the Same Old Song", "Standing in the Shadows of Love" and many others I can't remember.

shake it man !

GREAT 45 min set, I mean really GREAT !

Otis Williams ( right)

20 min intermmission to get a drink and check all the pretty girls at the bar and it's time to get back into this beautiful théatre that's nearly sold-out tonight with VERY expensive tickets ( Of Course, it's a Gérard Drouot Prod° ) between 70 & 95 Euros.

Same thing with The Temptations, there's only one original member :Otis Williams.
The Temptations
are headlining which they already did when both bands played together in Paris @ the Olympia theatre a few years ago

Once again nothing can go wrong with a HITlist like they have : " My Girl", "Get ready", "I can't get next to you", "Papa was a rolling stone", "Just my Imagination", "Ball of confusion"... and many others.
It's simply unbelievable Hits after Hits...
The new guys have a great voice and the Temptations have always been one step above all the other Motown bands simply because the songs are great and they've played many different styles of music all along their career : Doo-wop, Jazz, soul, Rock Psyche, funk...

We have a winner

One of our best gig for 2010 !

"Get ready":

"My girl" & "I'm losing you":

The Rodeo + Oh! Tiger Mountain @ Café de la Danse, Paris march 30th 2010

Back to the Café de la Danse in Bastille where we saw English youngsters and Rock'n Rollers Kitty Daisy & Lewis.
The show is starting very early with a French guy on the electric guitar on his own called Oh! Tiger Mountain , cool bluesy-Folk rock songs and dark voice unfortunately the poor guy is losing all credibility when trying to be funny between songs.

Le café de la danse is really packed when The Rodeo ( a cute french asian girl on vocals + a drummer and a guy on fiddle & keyboard) is taking the stage.
Once again the lightning is complete shit for the whole set.
I thought The rodeo was a pop band , not at all it's folk-americana.
They have cool songs but not one seems to be really catchy with a real hook.
Nice set above average.

Lonelady + Raymonde Howard @ C'est Lenoir, Black Session # 313, Paris March 29th 2010

First is unannounced Raymonde Howard playing for 25 min+.
She's singing , playing guitar and making live home-made loops with the guitar, there is also a drummer.
Not very attractive, sounds like she's playing the same song over and over.
Don't ask the famous Oliver Peel sitting next to me , he started sleeping , Zzzzzzzzzzzz !

Then there is Lonelady, I've heard the album this week-end and i wasn't convinced at all but sometimes after seeing a band LIVE you changed your mind.
Not this time.
There's a keyboard player ( playing silly melodies with two fingers ) and a drummer (playing the same rythm over and over), The girl is on guitar and vocals.
She has a nice voice but she's not communicating at all with the audience as she's looking constantly at what she's doing on her guitar.
The music is minimalist but boring, soooo boring.
I wanted to hang myself !
setlist: Raymonde Howard & Lonelady

Revolver + Lilly Wood & the Prick @ Chorus Festival @ La Défense, March 29th 2010

Revolver + Lilly Wood & The Prick
@ Chorus Fest @ La Défense, March 29th 2010

Lilly Wood, Prick out of shot

ROCKERPARIS is back to The Chorus fest in La Défense , the business district just outside Paris.
Very unusual time for a rock concert, the first band is playing at noon.
Last time, we were here for Noah & the Whale + Fink ( click for review, Pics...)

French pop band Lilly Wood & the Prick is opening ; between pop, electro (not too much) and folk this young band is doing better and better ( dixit a couple of friends who saw them last year).
The girl on vocals has a nice voice and her english is perfect, most of their songs are pop with a touch of folk thrown in ( even disco rythm for one), a bit of electro is added in the background on a couple of others.
The songs are also more powerfull than it used to with some cool guitar licks.
Cool 10 songs set.

Then we have French Pop-Folk band Revolver heavily influenced by The Beatles.
They had a couple of hits last year in France for their first album.
We saw them in December 2009 @ a Trabendo sessions (click for review, Pics...)that wasn't recorded at the trabendo(?).
We've just found out who's the "Prick" ( from Lilly Wood) when Revolver started their set, that's the guy who's telling everybody that they cannot take Pics if not accredited.
It's a FREE festival for fuck's sake !!! get a life you cunt !
Anyway, in this beautiful round tent (like the Cabaret Sauvage) lots of young girls for Revolver playing songs from their album plus a new new one ( see setlist).
Cool set but maybe they should work on their English as the prononciation is very 'frenchy'.

Don't know why they've played " get around town" ( their hit) twice, luckily they've incorporated the song " Bo Diddley" in the middle of the latter to nice effects.

setlist

Tonight Black session with Lonelady.
see ya there

Whalebone Polly + Rachael Dadd + This is the Kit + Andrew Skellam @ Oliver Peel session # 20, Paris March 27th 2010

Saturday, late afternoon , near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France is like beeing fly to Bristol, England in the middle of the forest surrounded by goblins.
Special session with English folk artists.
First to play @ Oliver's is Andy Skellam for a few songs before he catches his flight back to his hometown of Bristol. very "roots" à la Bert Jansch.
We were lucky to get 5-6 songs as yesterday @ Espace B he didn't "feel" it at all and stopped his show after only 2 songs.
Next to play is This is the Kit feat. Kate Stabbles & Jessie D Vernon ( who's also playing in Morningstar ). Ever more roots than Andy with Banjo & Fiddle.
Very relax and "hippie" atmosphere @ Oliver's. We're talking about real hippies here NOT "bourgeois Boheme" with their iPhone in the backpocket of their Armani jeans.
Then it's Rachael Dadd, same kind of folk music , very "roots" with banjo.
Later Rachael is inviting Kate to play a couple of songs ( under the Name Whalebone Polly) then Jessie is joining in for the last song.
As you can see it's colourfull, this session is once again a success with lots of new faces, too bad we didn'nt take any group pic after all these artists played.
Oliver's appartment is packed, the wine is flowing so is the veggie food ( only veggie food with these folkies ! ).
Part of the audience (left) & Espace B girls testing white wine.(right)

A kid wanna ro...folk, nice bag Honey !

On Wednesday 31th March @ Espace B ( M° Corentin Cariou, 75019) June Madrona (Folk/Punk) & Mia Doi Todd ( Michel Gondry directed her last video, HERE) are playing don't miss this one.
