North Korea has said that the fuelling of a long-range rocket is under way, despite international protests against the launch scheduled for later this week.
"We are injecting fuel as we speak. It has started," Paek Chang-Ho, director of the satellite control centre on the outskirts of the capital Pyongyang, said.
Tensions in the region have been heightened as the reclusive Communist state has proceeded towards a test-firing countdown.
Japan has deployed advanced US-made Patriot missile batteries around the country, including outside the nation's defence ministry in Tokyo. Read More
