The malfunction caused a temporary loss of power to the plant’s main generator cooling pumps, which are not part of the reactor system. Exelon said operators responded according to procedures and safely removed the reactor from service so the electrical issue could be corrected.
Operators are working to determine the cause of the malfunction and will restore the unit to service only after the cause is understood, repairs are performed and the system is fully tested.
Exelon said there was no risk to the public or injuries associated with the shutdown.
