Indonesia Earthquake: New Tsunami Warnings



Indonesia has issued a new tsunami warning after a powerful aftershock is recorded only hours after an 8.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Sumatra.

The US Geological Survey saida second incident, 10 miles (16km) beneath the ocean floor and some 383 miles (617km) from Banda Aceh, measured 8.2 on the Richter scale.

The first quake originated 20 miles (33km) underground and 271 miles (437km) southwest of the town on the Indonesia island of Sumatra.

Just before the powerful aftershock, reports said the sea at Simeulue Island, south of Banda Aceh, had receded by about 10 metres. Read MoreLink
