'Syrian Forces Shell Homs Ahead Of UN Vote'



Syrian forces loyal to President al Assad have shelled the city of Homs in the first bombings since a ceasefire began two days ago, it has been claimed.

The reports of violence comes ahead of a United Nations Security Council vote later on a Western-Arab draft resolution authorising a team to monitor the fragile ceasefire.

It is still unclear if Russia, one of Assad's allies, can be persuaded to pass the draft, which calls on the regime to allow access for up to 30 unarmed military observers.

It is unclear how many additional monitors will be sent in the coming weeks, but diplomatic sources suggest as many as 500.
