Food poisoning: Over 150 villagers ill in Jewar, India

JEWAR (GREATER NOIDA): More than 150 people, including women and children, were taken ill due to suspected food poisoning after eating at a 'shraddh' ceremony at Chiroli village near Jewar on Monday. District authorities said the food served for lunch might have caused the food poisoning. An investigation has been ordered into the matter.

Gautam Budh Nagar chief development officer, Pawan Kumar, said that most villagers started vomiting and complained of stomachache and headache after the ceremony. A few ailing villagers have been admitted to local nursing homes and hospitals in Jewar, Bulandshahr and Greater Noida. Some victims were administered first aid and allowed to go, district administration officials said.

Even though the administration has put the number of ill between 100 and 150, local residents say that the count could be well over 300. Read More
