Bears have killed two women in northern Japan after escaping from their enclosures in a wildlife park.
An unknown number of bears are roaming the snow-covered Hachimandaira animal park, in Akita prefecture, say police.
Local hunters have shot dead several of the bears and have recovered the bodies of two women, thought to be workers at the site.
A police spokeswoman said: "We cannot go close to the park because we don't know which cages are open, and how many bears are on the loose."
Nearly 40 animals are kept in the gated park, most of them brown bears. Read More
